Young children naturally translate life experiences into movement, song, dance, dramatic play, and works of art. Artistic expression and direction during early childhood provides a vital benefit for the development of creativity, and initial arts experiences deserve to be joyful and successful.

That's why PMA is delighted to bring back its 4 Arts Preschool, a half-day, arts-based program for kids ages 3-Kindergarten. In 4 Arts Preschool, children discover ways to interact and communicate with the world around them through the arts and express their wonderful imaginations. Our instructors work hard to encourage positive interactions, effective communication, physical development & artistic expression. Small class size allows for maximum individual attention.

We appreciate each child’s unique gifts and skills, and provide multiple opportunities for exploration while encouraging the artist within to grow and bloom! With the resources and staff of a five-decades-old arts program behind us, we strive to enrich a preschooler’s intellectual growth, budding social skills, group learning, and creative thinking. We strive at all times to foster an environment of inclusion and non-discrimination.

Daily Schedule
In addition to a lively program of preschool activities, each day features classes taught by specially trained arts professionals. The Creative Arts Blocks schedule is Music and Theatre on Monday/Wednesday, and Visual Arts and Dance on Tuesday/Thursday. Each Friday we will present a themed multi-arts activity that includes special guest artists and activities. For rainy days we have an indoor park and for nice weather a completely fenced, blacktop play area.

Educational Curriculum
Developmentally appropriate literacy, science and math activities are provided daily in addition to the arts classes. We put a strong emphasis on group learning and social interaction in our lessons.

Staff

Preschool teacher training, whether as part of a university degree or through a certified program, includes learning styles, human development and other fields pertinent to teaching young children. These skills directly relate to how the teacher approaches teaching and creates a safer and more enjoyable experience for your child.

Our instructors are among of the finest anywhere. Their ranks include professional artists, university graduates, and educators with rich and varied teaching experiences. Many of our instructors have been teaching in preschool settings for many years, and we are incredibly fortunate to have them.

Registration Options

Children may register online for one to five days a week. A healthy mid-morning snack is provided. Students may arrive beginning at 8:45 am and should be picked up no later than 12:15pm. We ask that all children be toilet-trained and able to use the restroom without assistance prior to registration. Please let us know, at the time of registration, if your child has any special needs or allergies and which days your child will be attending.

Fee and Payment Options
Payments are made on a monthly basis at the beginning of the month. Some months have a different number of class days. We have determined the average number of class days and simplified payments into a standardized fee that is the same each month. For your convenience payments can be made through our auto-pay system using your checking, savings or credit card account. We also accept cash, checks and all major credit cards.

Please be sure to note which days of the week you want your child to attend during the registration process. Thanks!

Arts Blocks include:
http://www.pdxmetroarts.org/images/P1030859.JPGCreative Dance: An excellent introduction to dance and movement that lets children explore their own potential. Moving to a variety of music assists motor co-ordination, rhythm, and strength. A fun way to get started moving.

Creative Drama: Enjoy the excitement of theatre through the process of improvisational games, story enactment, imagination journeys, theatre games, music, folklore and dramatic play.

Creative Music: Explore the joyful sound of music in song, rhythm games, hand instruments, and listening. A child's first introduction to the magic world of music.

Creative Art: Hands-on art projects that children can really get into--glue, glitter, paint and color. Kids have fun with art and we do the clean-up.

The Creative Arts blocks are included as an integral part of the overall 4 Arts Preschool curriculum.  However, they can also be registered for separately or in conjunction with another Creative Arts class outside of the 4 Arts Preschool.
