See Our Future

We are building our future now. We moved to the new building in December 2009 and have been remodeling ever since. (Classes moved into the building in March.)

You can help. We can use volunteers to help with the remodel or with items that we need as well as monetary contributions. Learn more ways to contribute and make our community a better place for the arts.

Our mission is to insure that everyone, particularly youth, have an opportunity to learn, perform and experience the arts; by providing meaningful access to quality arts education and performance programs for the community.

Our mission is accomplished through support of a School, Center, Outreach Programs, and Dance Company.

  • PMA School provides in-depth quality arts education and performance opportunities in dance, music, theatre and visual arts for all ages and levels from preschool to adult and beginning to pre-professional. Classes are programmed six days a week, as time and space permit within our building.
  • PMA Center provides a venue on Portland's East-side that serves as a resource to the arts-related needs of the community, and houses: dance studios, a 165 seat theatre equipped with lights and sound, a stage with Marley covered sprung wooden flooring, dressing rooms, 2 restrooms, set/prop storage, costume storage, sewing room and a kitchen. The theatre space is available for concerts, family gatherings, corporate events, workshops, and master classes.
  • PMA Outreach Programs partner with schools, community organizations and other programs to bring arts education into under-served communities. We provide both in-school and after-school outreach programs. The after-school outreach programs benefit students who do not have transportation available to participate in offsite arts classes.
  • Metro Dancers provides a diverse season of performances for advanced and pre-professional dancers designed to lift each dancer to their highest possible level of technical experience and provide quality family friendly performances to the community. The Company includes rising pre-professional dancers and retired professional dancers. Metro Dancers also travel to other cities to perform as guests of other companies.

The primary clients are families who value an enriched education for their children and appreciate how the arts support and improve academic performance. The majority of our users come from Portland's East-side, but our reach extends throughout the tri-county area. School classrooms from five different school districts take advantage of our in-school outreach and performance programs. Our users are ethnically and economically diverse.

We are seeking donations and/or partners to help us continue our vision through this new property on Stark Street. We are registered as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization within the State of Oregon.
