Our 2025-26 Company
We are very fortunate to have Metro Dancers in residence at Portland Metro Arts! Metro Dancers is a company of incredibly gifted and talented performers under the artistic direction of Nancy Yeamans. Together they present a full season of productions, including repertory concerts, showcases, and a traditional ballet each spring. Our 2026 Spring performance will be our full length ballet Coppelia.
History
The company was formed in 1977 as an avenue for advanced dancers to perform traditional full-length ballets as well as modern, jazz, character, and contemporary works. The combination of rising pre-professionals performing alongside former professional dancers gives the company a unique, exuberant style and polish. Metro Dancers’ performances offer the opportunity to see traditional full-length ballets as well as original choreography from seasoned dance professionals.
Metro Dancers alumni have gone on to perform professionally with Alvin Ailey, Ballet West, Boston Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Dance for Change, Grand Rapids Ballet, Julliard, Los Angeles Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, Sacramento Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and numerous other companies. Many others have become choreographers, artistic directors and dance educators, continuing the legacy of Metro Dancers.

Rehearsals
The frequency, day and time of rehearsals depend on casting. Every effort is made to schedule rehearsals to accommodate performers’ schedules and to use their time effectively. Not all performers are needed at every rehearsal or for the entire rehearsal time. Corps (non-lead character) rehearsals are held on Saturdays between 1-5pm. Specific small group rehearsals are held during the week on Mon-Thu evenings generally from 6:00-9pm or Saturdays from 1:30pm-4:30pm. For most cast members the commitment is once or twice a week during January, increasing to 2-3 days during February and March, and 3-4 days a week during April. During the week before the concert and the week of the concert, a greater time commitment is necessary. As always, rehearsal schedules are subject to change. Updated schedules are posted on our website on the Metro Dancers page and changes will be announced at pertinent group rehearsals. Performers are responsible for all information announced and posted.
Costumes
All costumes are provided, with the exception of girls’ tights, technique and pointe shoes. Specialty tights or shoes will be provided.
Performance Skills Class Jan 24 th 2:45-3:30, Jan 31st 1:45-2:30, and Feb14th 1:45-2:30
The entire cast comes together, working as a unit, to ensure that all performers have the necessary information and skills to present their very best to our audiences. All performers are required to attend the Performance Skills class on Saturdays for 3 weeks 1/24, 1/31 & 2/14. There is no additional fee for the class.
Performance Fees
Finances should not exclude anyone from our performances. A $100 performance fee helps to defray the cost of repair, cleaning and replacement costumes, staffing, rehearsal work and other expenses. This is a flat fee, not based on the number of costumes worn or parts cast. The value of the performance experience, hours of instruction, coaching and staff time make this nominal cost a bargain. This can be paid with a single payment or we will automatically withdraw a 1/3 payment in February, March and April. If the cast wishes, we will also plan a fundraiser in which performers may voluntarily elect to participate.
Financial and Family Obligations
Metro Dancers is a non-profit organization and is operated as a co-op. The success of this performance depends on the commitment and volunteer efforts of the cast and their families. We ask that everyone donate 15 hours of volunteer help from January-April. There are a variety of opportunities and ways you can contribute your time. It is the responsibility of each family to record their volunteer hours in the Volunteer Log Book on the front desk. In lieu of volunteering, you may choose to make a financial contribution, so we can hire additional staff to ensure that everything gets done.
Spring Break Project March 23rd -28th
We will be working w/costumes, sets and props the week of March 23-28 getting them ready for our April performance. There is much to be done. This work is critical and we will need lots of volunteer help. Please put this on your calendars.
